I had the extraordinary privilege of collaborating with good friend Conor Grebel and the amazing talent at Autofuss to help produce this segment of the 2014 OFFF Cincinnati title sequence. A variety of Autofuss artists were given an OFFF presenters name and used it to create a unique physical typographic scene.
The COCOLAB titles are set in a dark and foggy forgotten forest. Using real moss and branches, we created a mystifying texture and atmosphere that allows the viewer to feel as though they are truly present in this etherial place. The entire set was enclosed in a small 'hot box' made of mat-board and blankets, then filled with dense fog. A projector sat opposite the camera, playing simple line-work animation. Combined with the fog, the animations become volumes of light, passing through and revealing a mysterious and magical landscape.
